JEFFREY SONN: Most of the time, a client comes to us. And they've lost a great deal of money. And they're not sure why. We explain to them that the most common reason they've lost money is because either the broker didn't explain to them what they were really buying or simply lied about it. Sometimes the broker doesn't even understand what they've sold. We call that negligence. Sometimes the brokers run amok and traded the client's account without their permission. That's called unauthorized trading. Probably the most common claim we see is something called the sale of unsuitable investments. This simply means that the customer was sold an investment which was not appropriate for that customer, taking in consideration their age, their net worth, their investment objective, and most importantly their risk tolerance. We represent investors against many different types of promoters of investment products. This could include everybody from stockbrokers to registered investment advisors to insurance agents to real estate brokers. Pretty much anybody who sells an investment product can be the target of a lawsuit.
JEFFREY EREZ: Wall Street never stops reinventing itself. And as they reinvent themselves and fabricate and concoct new products and new ways of packaging investments, new ways of selling securities, eventually some of these products fail and often fail miserably. While we're always dealing with investments that were sold in the past, we're always learning and looking and investigating new types of claims that are arising. If you had invested and you were told that these were safe or low-risk investments and you sustained a significant loss of your invested capital, you very well may have a claim against the firm and the broker that sold you those investments for not disclosing the true level of risk associated with those particular investments.
